Heavy Rains Damage Road

Three consecutive days of rains in the Upper West Region have badly damaged some of the major roads, especially the Nadowli-Jirapa stretch which partially caved in, posing danger to motorists, particularly, heavy duty trucks.

A tour of the roads by the regional authorities showed that concrete embankments and some culverts were washed away while some bridges collapsed.

The Regional Minister, Mr Sahanun Mogtari and Mr Philip Agbeti, Regional Maintenance Engineer of Ghana Highways Authority, were among the officials that toured the affected areas.

To forestall any misfortune on the road, the Regional Minister called on the Highway Authority to erect warning signs at the damaged spots to guide motorists.

He also called on heavy-duty vehicles to use the Babite-Lawra road as the Jirapa road is unsafe.

Mr Agbeti assured that the roads would be repaired as soon the rains subside.
