A downpour Thursday night in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region has caused havoc to portions of Kumasi Central Prison.
A portion of the Prison’s wall collapsed while some vehicles, including a bus parked in the yard close to the wall were also destroyed.
The incident, 3News gathered from Prison sources, did not affect the prison cells where both remand and convicted prisoners are being held.
About 200-metre stretch of the wall, which is behind the prison yard and leads to the quarters of the Prison officers and wardens, collapsed in the incident.
Eyewitnesses say the bus was dragged by flooding water from inside the yard, which is on a higher ground, and broke the wall causing the bus to land on its side on the ground outside the prison premises.
Though there were some commercial vehicles parked behind the wall outside the prison yard, none was affected by the incident which also destroyed portion of a wooden lotto kiosk and a small billboard.
When 3News got to the scene Friday morning, some officers of the Central Prison had gathered at the collapsed wall area ostensibly to inspect the nature of the damage and find amicable solution to it.
The prison bus with registration number PS 160, had been lifted.
