Heavy downpour disrupts voting in Ahanta West Constitutency

A downpour that lasted for almost 30 minutes, slowed down voting in the ongoing presidential and parliamentary elections in the Ahanta West Constituency of the Western Region.

The rains, which started around 1335 hours on Friday afternoon, compelled prospective voters, political party agents and Electoral Commission officials to run for shelter.

After the rains, the GNA visited the Agona Hospital Polling Station ‘A’ at 1415 hours, and noted that 214 voters had voted out of 607 registered voters.

At the Old Dixcove Polling station, Mr. Yaw Owusu Sekyere, the presiding officer, said 445 voters had voted out of 1077 registered voters as at 1420hours

At the Old Rural Bank One ‘B’ at Domeabra Electoral Area, the Presiding Officer, Mr. Vincent Anorvey, said the names of 650 people were on the voters register out of which 312 had exercised their franchise as at 1430hours.

The Ahanta West constituency has 63,792 registered voters, and 126 polling stations.

Four parliamentary aspirants contesting the parliamentary seat, are the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr. Samuel Johnfiah of the NPP, Mr. George kwame Aboagye of the NDC, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Council, Mr. David Oscar Yawson, a lecturer, for the PPP, and Mr. Anthony Ackah, a farmer, contesting on the ticket of the CPP.
