Accra Hearts of Oak are gearing up for an electrifying showdown with archrivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the 2025 President’s Cup, set to take place on July 6 at the Accra Sports Stadium. Despite a challenging track record against Kotoko in recent encounters, the Phobians are determined to break the streak and claim victory.
At the official launch of the event, Hearts’ Director of Communications, Kwame Opare Addo, expressed the club’s resolute commitment to securing the prestigious title. “We are going to make sure that, even though the team is on break, because we attach seriousness to this particular assignment, the team is going to get back to training on the 19th of June and start preparation to ensure that at the end of it all, we send the Hearts of Oak family back home with positive news,” Opare Addo declared.
The Cup, a fixture in Ghana’s football calendar, brings added significance as it symbolizes unity and sportsmanship under the auspices of the President of Ghana. Hearts and Kotoko, who finished fourth and third respectively in the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League, were chosen for the competition by presidential prerogative, as clarified by GHALCA President John Ansah during the launch.
With a passionate fanbase and fierce rivalry fueling the anticipation, both teams are expected to bring their A-game. Hearts of Oak’s preparations begin on June 19, a testament to their commitment to lifting the Cup and restoring pride in their camp.
The 2025 President’s Cup promises not only a thrilling spectacle for fans but also a renewal of the enduring rivalry between two of Ghana’s most celebrated football clubs.
