Accra Hearts of Oak will begin the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season at the University of Ghana Stadium after the Accra Sports Stadium was made unavailable because of preparations for Ghana’s forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Phobians have agreed a temporary arrangement to play their Matchday 1 and Matchday 3 home fixtures at the University of Ghana Stadium. Their opening home game will be against Berekum Chelsea on Sunday, 6 September 2026.
Hearts of Oak will then travel to face Bibiani Gold Stars on matchday two before returning to Accra to host Bechem United the following week. Both of those September home fixtures will be staged at the University of Ghana Stadium rather than the club’s traditional base at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The club said the temporary relocation was necessary because work is being carried out at the Accra Sports Stadium ahead of Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia in September.
“Accra Hearts of Oak SC has made temporary arrangements with the University of Ghana Stadium for the use of the facility for our Matchday 1 and Matchday 3 fixtures,”the club announced.
The Accra Sports Stadium is currently unavailable while preparations are undertaken on the pitch for the Black Stars’ upcoming AFCON qualifiers. Hearts of Oak will therefore start their league campaign in a different home environment while the work continues.
The club has asked supporters to maintain their backing despite the switch in venue.
“We appreciate the understanding and continued support of our cherished supporters,”Hearts said.
The move will require Hearts of Oak to adapt quickly under head coach Nebojsa Kapor as they seek a positive start to the new campaign. The Phobians will be hoping the change does not affect their preparations or early-season momentum in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League.
Hearts of Oak have already experienced changes to their home arrangements in recent seasons. Last term, the club used Legon Stadium as its home venue from the middle of the campaign before returning to the Accra Sports Stadium for the final part of the season.
Across the previous season, the Phobians used both facilities and recorded six wins and one draw in 17 home matches. Their record underlines the challenge facing the club as it begins another campaign away from its usual stadium.
The University of Ghana Stadium will serve as Hearts of Oak’s temporary base for the opening home fixtures, although the club has not yet confirmed arrangements beyond those matches. Further information about the venue for subsequent home games is expected to be communicated in due course.
