Healthy opposition needed to move forward – Minister

Kumbungu (N/R), Oct. 26, GNA – Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Communication and Technology, has said that Ghana needed a dynamic and healthy opposition to contribute effectively to help push the country’s development process forward.

He said it was wrong for communities to be divided on political lines and fighting each other while their representatives in Parliament were in good relations noting: “If we the active politicians are not fighting among ourselves why should you supporters fight among yourselves.”

He explained that politics was all about choices and urged the people to feel free to elect candidates who would cater for their welfare and the development of their communities.

Mr Kan-Dapaah was speaking at the inauguration of a 230 million- cedi Post Office at Kumbungu in the Tolon/Kumbungu District on Monday. The project was financed through the highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Fund while the Ghana Post provided the necessary supervision and equipment including an Internet facility.

The Minister urged Ghanaians not to allow politics to divide them but to remain united and focused, saying: “Ghana can make a lot more progress through peace”. He advised the people to be tolerant especially in this election year.

He announced that the Government would build an Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Centre at Kumbungu to provide the youth with skills and equip them for the job market. Mr Kofi Dua-Adonteng, Managing Director of Ghana Post Company Limited, announced efforts the Company was making to link its offices throughout the country with Internet facility for the benefit of customers.

In a speech read for him, Mr Dua-Adonteng said Ghana Post would provide prompt, efficient, reliable and secure communication and financial services and products to both its domestic and foreign customers at competitive rates.
