Shama (W/R) April 20, GNA-Dr. Linda Van-Otoo, Deputy Western Regional Director of Public Health, on Tuesday gave the assurance that healthcare delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) would not be discriminatory.
She said contributors would benefit from drug dispensation; treatment, referral and other ancillary services irrespective of the premium that they would pay.
Dr. Van-Otoo was speaking at a day’s community education programme, organised by the Shama Sub-metro NHIS at Shama on the theme “Benefits of the NHIS to the individual, family, community and nation”. She said maternal and infant mortality and other health related problems would be reduced, under the scheme.
Mr. Samuel K. Blankson, Manager for the Scheme, said there was the need for intensification of education to encourage the people to contribute effectively to the scheme.
He said out of the 7,000 registered members of the NHIS at Shama, 320 of them had made part payments of premium while only 82 made full payment.
Mr. Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the Shama clinic, which was been rehabilitated at the cost of six billion cedis would be upgraded to a polyclinic to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
