Health Workers Group to go on strike

Accra, Feb. 8, GNA – The Health Workers Group (HWG) on Thursday issued a statement to notify the National Labour Commission as well as all health facility managers of an intended strike action starting from February 15.

A statement released in Accra on Thursday said the decision to withdraw their services was taken at the National General Council meeting of Health Workers on Tuesday in Accra. The strike is to back their earlier concerns of the failure by their employer to fast rack the resolution of concerns raised on the new salary structure.

The statement said within the stated period of the strike action the health workers expected that the principle of equal pay for work of equal value underpinning the whole job evaluation exercise to be fully implemented.

It demanded that all salaries must take retrospective effect from January 1, 2006 and that its own leadership certified the salary structure of all the HWG and consequently agree upon by the rank and file before implementation.

The statement reminded all health facility managers to take note of the fact that during the strike period only emergency cases would be attended to.
