Kumbungu (N/R), Aug 10, GNA – The Paramount Chief of Kumbungu Traditional Area, Kumbun-Naa Abu Yiri II, has complained about the desertion of post and lackadaisical attitude to work by health workers of the Kumbungu Health Centre. He said the workers, one medical officer, nurses and community nurses, had vacated their post to reside in Tamale and when their services are needed by the people they are nowhere to be found.
Naa Abu Yiri said this when the Global Mission for the Needy, a local non-governmental organisation, donated five theater beds and other hospital equipments valued at 80,000 dollars to the health centre. He said twice two persons were seriously sick but the health centre was vacant when the sick persons were rushed there. “The people are being denied essential services that the workers are mandated to do”. He said if such negative attitudes were not properly checked by the health authorities, the promise by the government to bring healthcare to the doorsteps of the people would be misplaced.
Mad Veronica Zenabu Salifu, the Executive Director of the NGO, said her outfit was touched by the inadequate equipment at the facility. The Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Bukari Moses Mabengba, lauded the NGO for its efforts at complementing government’s mission of providing quality healthcare for the people.
