Health workers at Wa sensitised on NHIS

Wa, July 29, GNA- Mr. Godfrey Bayon Tangu, Wa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) on Monday said it was morally unjustifiable for any group of people to play politics with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He said because of the laudable objectives of the scheme, it was incumbent on every responsible citizen to support it. Mr. Tangu said this in a speech delivered for him at a two-day sensitisation workshop for about 100 health service providers in the District on the scheme at Wa.

The workshop would determine the level of organisation and implementation of mutual health insurance schemes in the various communities with the view to identifying and removing obstacles in the implementation of the NHIS.

The MCE said sensitisation is a process, which must be pursued vigorously to ensure that everyone came on board.

Mr. Tangu mentioned a number of health facilities being constructed in the area this year with the support of development partners. These include the construction of two rural clinics at Danyokura and Manyeyiri, while Dabo and Charingu communities were benefiting from nurses’ quarters at a total cost of 430 million cedis.

He said Charingu community would again benefit from a community-based health planning and services compound while the construction of a health insurance office at Funsi would begin in August this year.

Mr Tangu pointed out that the provision of these facilities would be determined by the kind of service health care providers were ready to offer to beneficiaries.

Ms. Basilia Salia, Wa Municipal Director of Health Services said the scheme was bringing new challenges and that all health service providers should change their attitude to work. “Quality and satisfactory service should be the goal of each one of us if we want the scheme to succeed,” she stated.
