Health Workers ask for retraining of TBA’s

Begoro (E/R), Dec. 5, GNA – The Fanteakwa District Health Management Team (DHMT) had urged the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to draw a comprehensive programme to retrain Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) on midwifery practices to enable them perform effectively.

The Asrebuso-Sub District Health Officer, Miss Millicent Yirenkyi, made the call in her report at the quarterly performance review meeting of the DHYMT) at Begoro on Friday.

Miss Yirenkyi noted that, the activities of TBA’s had reduced supervised delivery in the Sub-District Health Posts and suggested the need for their retraining to improve on their performance. Mr Walter Gudu of the Bosuso Health Post complained that, bilharzia cases were on the increase in the area and asked parents to boil their water before drinking.

The District Director of Health Services, Dr Frederick Kwame Ofosu asked sub-district health posts to make referrals early to avoid complications and inconveniences.
