Health providers in Upper East Region signs MoU

The Upper East Regional Health Directorate and Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), on Thursday signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide quality healthcare in the region.

The MoU is aimed at helping healthcare providers in the region to accelerate their efforts in achieving the millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on health.

Dr William Koku Awoonor-Williams represented Ghana Health Service (GHS), Reverend Jacob Kofi Ayeebo, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Tamale-Anglican Health Service, Most Reverend Alfred Agyenta-Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Navrongo-Bolgatanga represented the Catholic Health Service while the Reverend Wasau Nagba, Chairperson of the Upper Presbytery stood in for the Presbyterian Health Services.

Mr Lucio Dery, Deputy Director of Health Service in charge of Administration, said the region is deprived hence the need for the GHS to bring on board innovations needed to turn around the indicators related to neonatal mortality, maternal and child mortality.

He said one of such innovations is to bring expertise at the sub district level to make the difference required in health delivery to achieve the MDGs on health.

Bishop Agyenta who spoke on behalf of CHAG, expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Health for demonstrating the goodwill through the partnership towards the common goal of bringing optimal healthcare delivery.

He said there was the need to encourage and strengthen such collaborations considering the deprived nature of the region.

He called on the partners to bring some faith dimension into health delivery in the region to make the health profession more effective as Christ devoted time for the sick during his healing mission.

Dr Koku Awoornor-Williams said since 2008, health delivery in partnership with CHAG had been overwhelming, adding that the MoU would help the four parties at the sub district level to have integrated annual programme of work.

This he said would be based on medium term strategy to deliver holistic services as partners.**
