Health officer commends mothers

Nkoranza (B/A), Dec. 3, GNA – The Brong-Ahafo Regional Health Directorate has commended the impressive turn out of nursing mothers and pregnant women in the just ended Integrated Maternal and Child Health Campaign programme in the Nkoranza district.

Mr Tetteh Aryee, Executive Officer at the Directorate told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that, unlike the mass deworming exercise for basic schools, which most parents refused to patronise, the child health campaign received a very good response.

He commended the community health volunteers, who assisted the nurses during the exercise, expressing the hope that the district would record 98 percent coverage of the exercise. The executive officer urged the nursing mothers and the volunteers to maintain the spirit and selflessly work to promote the good health of the people.

The child health campaign, dubbed “Healthier mothers and children in Ghana’s golden jubilee year and beyond”, was aimed at promoting the health of post and antenatal health care for mothers to help check maternal and child morbidity and mortality. During the exercise vitamin ‘A’ supplements was provided for children between the ages of six and 59 months as well as lactating women with eight weeks postpartum.

The children were also given polio vaccination, dewormed and given treated mosquito nets.

Mr Richard Kwasi Hinneh, Nkoranza District Director of Health Services, expressed his gratitude to the nurses and volunteers for their dedicated work during the programme. He praised the District Assembly for supporting the exercise with transport.
