Health Ministry steps in to resolve impasse at Ankaful Psychiatric hospital

The Chief Executive of the Mental Health Authority, Dr. Akwasi Osei says it will be wrong for nurses at the Ankaful Psychiatric hospital to discharge inmates for alleged misappropriation of funds by the Chief Executive of the hospital.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, Dr. Osei said a meeting with the leadership of the nurses has been scheduled for next week Tuesday, therefore the nurses’ decision comes to him as a surprise.

Staff at Ankaful Psychiatric hospital have embarked on a sit-down strike to press home their demand for the removal of the Medical Director. Dr. Eugene Dordoye.

The nurses want the Medical Director at the facility removed for alleged misappropriation of funds and instances of conflict of interest.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Ankaful Nurses Group, Daniel Danso Sarpong in an interview with GBC`s George Asekere said nurses at the facility are being humiliated publicly while executives of their union have received threats from the Medical Director.

Chairman of the Ankaful Nurses Group said if nothing is done about the situation by Monday, they will totally withdraw their services
