Health Ministry Plans Police Security for Public Hospitals After Ridge Incident

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has revealed that the ministry is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service to enhance security at public health facilities nationwide.

This move comes in the wake of an alleged assault on the staff of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) by a group reportedly led by activist Ralph St. Williams.

Speaking in an interview on TV3, Mr. Akandoh said the incident highlighted the urgent need to safeguard health workers and patients.

“We are putting measures in place with the police. Incidents like this influence policy direction, and I am now considering not only Ridge Hospital but also extending police presence to other health facilities,” he stated.

According to him, the initiative will be implemented in collaboration with District Chief Executives, district health directors, and the police service to ensure quick response whenever security challenges arise.
