The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Mintah Akandoh, has called on mining companies to support the completion and equipping of Agenda 111 hospital projects located within their operational areas. He said the ministry wants these companies to partner with the government to ensure the stalled facilities are finished and put to use.
At a press briefing in Accra on Monday, December 1, 2025, the Minister explained that the new approach is aimed at speeding up progress on many of the ongoing hospital projects. He noted that where an Agenda 111 project remains incomplete within a mining enclave, the companies are encouraged to step in, finish the work and collaborate with the state in operating the facility.
Mr. Akandoh said that involving mining firms is part of a broader strategy to draw more private participation into the health sector, especially in resource-rich areas. He pointed to examples of corporate-supported health facilities, such as the Maritime Hospital and the Bank of Ghana Hospital, as proof that this model can work effectively.
He stressed that the ministry is open to partnerships beyond the mining industry and that the government remains committed to completing all Agenda 111 projects. While some will be fully funded by the state, private involvement will complement government efforts.
Launched in August 2021 under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Agenda 111 initiative seeks to construct 101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals in newly created regions, and two psychiatric hospitals across the country.
