Apam, Feb 13, GNA – The Gomoa District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has registered 22,554 people.
Mr Isaac Quansah, District Accountant of the Scheme, announced this when he addressed the Catholic community in the District at Apam. Mr Quansah gave the break-down as follows, indigents, 301, over 70 years, 1808, pensioners 1,233, under 18 years 14,268, formal sector 4,460 and the informal sector, 18,094.
He said contributors who had paid their premiums were getting free medical service and added that the highest medical bill submitted to the management of the scheme was 764,500 cedis.
Mr Quansah said the bill should convince people sitting on the fence that the scheme was not a “419” sham.
He appealed to the people to stop politicising the scheme and to change their attitude to make the scheme successful since there was no better way of accessing quality health service than through the scheme. Rev Fr. Jude Ampah, Priest of the Apam St. Joseph Parish, appealed to them to register and pay their premium, saying “save against the rainy day” since they did not know when they would fall ill.
