Health for all launched at European Town.

European Town (W/R), Sept. 16, GNA – Over 600 people have benefited from a free medical outreach programme at European Town near Sekondi. The beneficiaries and their children were treated for worm infestations, skin diseases, anaemia and malnutrition. Papa Owusu Ankomah, Member of Parliament for Sekondi, said the exercise was aimed at assisting the vulnerable in his community to get treatment for some common ailments.

He said other communities to benefit from the exercise include Asemensidu, Nkotompo and Anarfo. Papa Owusu Ankomah said the most deprived areas in his constituency were likely to enjoy the ‘health for all” programme within the next few days.

He said though many of those who attended had not registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), efforts were being made to get them to register. Papa Owusu Ankomah said discussions were underway with the Nurses and Midwifery Training School to get some nurses to embark on an outreach programme on hygiene in all communities within the constituency. He said it was sad that many parents in the low income group do not value the importance of education and usually do not send their wards to school.

Papa Owusu Ankomah said under his initiative several classroom blocks have been provided in several parts of his constituency to boost education. He said an education fund would soon be set up to create educational opportunities for brilliant but needy children and students in the constituency.
