Adankwame (Ash), Aug 15, GNA – Mr Richard Owusu-Agyemang, the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Community Participation Co-ordinator (CPC), has advised heads of basic schools to promote transparency in their schools’ financial management to win the confidence and trust of the communities.
He said they should exhibit high sense of professional discipline and competency in their administration.
Mr Owusu-Agyemang, who is also the Public Relation Officer at the District Education Directorate, was addressing a meeting organised by the Adankwame Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and School Management Committee (SMC) in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District at the weekend. The traditional rulers, unit committee members, teachers and other stakeholders attended it.
Mr Owusu-Agyemang told teachers to desist from acts that would impugn the dignity and credibility of the profession. He asked them to serve as role models in the society and refrain from attitudes that might discourage other interested persons from taking teaching as a career.
Nana Yiadom Boakye, the Krontihene of Adankwame, complained of lack of transparency in the financial management of the local school. This, he claimed, had resulted in apathy on the part of parents towards educational programmes and called on the PTA and the SMC to ensure that monies collected for school programmes were properly accounted for.
Mr Ofori Atta, an executive member of the PTA, said the community is putting up an extra classroom block to accommodate the Junior Secondary School 111 pupils.
Mr Stephen Acheampong, the Headteacher, said 11.051 million cedis out of the PTA levies of 14.169 million cedis was spent on the provision of basic facilities for the school leaving a balance of over three million cedis. 15 Aug 05
