Forikrom (B/A), Dec. 19, GNA- Nana Kwao Adams, the Twafohene of Forikrom in the Techiman municipality has noted that every parent should vigorously pursue the education of their children to help raise the socio-economic advancement of the country.
Nana Adams said this during a send-off party in honour of Mr. Takyi Jones-Wesley, the out-going Headmaster of Forikrom Methodist Primary and junior secondary School at Forikrom.
He asked parents to see the education of their children as a responsibility as well as an insurance cover, which would benefit them in future.
Nana Adams praised the work and conduct of Mr. John-Wesley during his period of stay at Forikrom, which helped to raise the academic performance of the 2006 BECE candidates. The Twafohene praised him for embarking upon a tree planting exercise to protect the environment and organizing fund raising activities with the community to rehabilitate the school which was gutted by fire in 2001.
Mr. James Kwabena Osei, assemblyman for the area called on the people to emulate the shinning example of the out-going headmaster who helped tremendously towards the development of the area. Mr. Osei stressed the need for unity and cooperation of the people in the area for development, adding that they should see themselves as one people.
The headmaster of Forikrom Primary JSS, Mr. Isaac Effah Ankomah, thanked the out-going headmaster for the foundation he laid, saying it was a challenge for him to maintain and continue from where he left off and asked the community to contribute their quota towards the development of the school.
He said pupils of the kindergarten to primary six with a total population of 3,300 were currently studying under trees and appealed to the municipal assembly, philanthropist and NGOs as well as the community to help provide decent classrooms for the pupils to improve teaching and learning.
Mr. Jones-Wesley on his part commended the chiefs and people of the area for their support and cooperation and urged them to extend the same to his predecessor for the growth of the school. He advised the people to bury all their political differences, since it could retard the progress of the area as well as the academic performance of the school.
He promised to continue assisting the school and the pupils so that the school would become a model one in the area. The School Management Committee Chairman, Mr. Samuel Baa-Kyeremeh advised parents to take advantage of the capitation grant and enroll their wards in schools and appealed to the Ghana Education service to include the school in the feeding programme. 19 Dec 06
