Yefri (B/A) June 11, GNA – Miss Christiana Gyasi, Headmistress of the Methodist Primary School at Yefri in Nkoranza district has commended government for introducing the school feeding programme. She told the Ghana News Agency that the policy had increased enrolment in the school and had promoted punctuality among the pupils. The headmistress said the 380 pupils, made up of 100 kindergarten and 280 in the primary level were all enjoying the free lunch daily. Miss Gyasi noted that if the policy had been introduced earlier in the country’s history, there would have been a remarkable change in the nation’s education.
“The capitation grant and the provision of school uniforms, bags and writing materials to needy pupils have also encouraged parents to enroll their children in school, thereby reducing the number of school dropouts”, she added.
She advised parents to strive to provide their school going children with their basic needs to supplement the efforts of government while making them feel happy in school. The headmistress appealed to the teachers to give of their best to improve the academic performance of their pupils, “since the school has been lucky to benefit from the feeding programme”. She complained about lack of kitchen for the school and appealed to the school management committee and the parent teacher association to help provide one.
