Ayirebi (E/R), Oct. 4, GNA – Ms Victoria Asare Duah, Headmistress of the District Assembly Junior High School at Ayirebi near Akim Oda, has advised the jobless youth in the town to desist from defecating in the school’s classrooms. Ms Duah noted that the practice did not promote teaching and learning. The Headmistress described the youth’s action as atrocious and told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Saturday that: “These nefarious activities have been reported to the police”. According to her, each week between Friday evening and Monday morning, teachers and students of the school returned to the school to witness ‘big balls’ of toilets scattered in almost all the classrooms. She stated that what made the situation unbearable were the tables and chairs that they defecated on. She added that the students and teachers had to waste time to clear the toilets, scrub the rooms and had to wait for the rooms to dry before starting classes.
The Headmistress appealed to the youths to desist from defecating in the school saying it was one of the oldest in the town that had produced a good number of Statesmen. “Our teachers are of high moral character and proven integrity, who do not deserve such treatment,” she said. She vehemently condemned the act and said, “since we are in the era of rule of law the culprits when arrested would be prosecuted”. The GNA observed that the entire 200 students of the school attended classes in a dwarf type wooden structure and could therefore, not lock them after classes. The compound, which was waterlogged with traces of old boreholes posed a death trap to the children. The wooden structure and the environment were not conducive for studies in a school under the Birim North District Assembly’s administration and direction. 4 Oct. 08
