Mr Charles Adu Amankwa, head teacher of Rich Brain Academy at Bosuso in the Fanteakwa District, has expressed unhappiness at the increasing rate at which parents in the district allow school-going children to work for money.
“They cart cocoa beans, food crops from the farms and tap palm wine, instead of encouraging them to go to school”.
Mr Amankwa, who was speaking at a meeting of the school’s management committee, which was also attended by parents and staff, called on parents to instil discipline and useful virtues in their children as they monitor and supervise their studies.
He said with the establishment of the school, the habit of children loitering about in the mornings has reduced.
Mr Amankwa said the school’s moral educational programmes were designed to instill the values of truth, love and good conduct to the pupils.
He said the fees are the main source of income for the schools, and that, if parents or guardians are unable to pay a ward’s fees, it sometimes becomes difficult for the school to employ qualified teachers and to construct decent structures for the pupils.
