Aduman (Ash), June 28, GNA – Mr Martin Yaw Mensah, the Headmaster of Aduman Secondary School in the Kwabre District, has called for the upgrading of the school’s infrastructure.
He said facilities in the school do not correspond with the increase in the number of staff and students. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Aduman on Tuesday, Mr Mensah said the school needed more computers, glassware and chemicals for its science laboratories, library books and additional classroom blocks. “The school needs additional blocks of dormitories for the boys and girls, water closet toilets to replace the existing pit latrines and six flats for masters”, he added.
Mr Mensah said the lack of these facilities had resulted in overcrowding and pressure on the existing amenities and appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals to assist the school.
He said the Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) of the school and the Old Students’ Association were doing a lot to support the development of the school but other stakeholders must help the school that now has a student population of 1,249, a teaching staff of 60 as well as 70 non-teaching staff.
The Headmaster said the PTA, through partnership with a private company, had established a computer centre with 30 computers and was building a computer laboratory.
He said the PTA had partly fenced the school and was putting up a four-unit bungalow for the teachers and that the old students were also putting up a dormitory for the girls.
