Hawkers ‘curse’ AMA officials over demolition of ‘kiosks’ at Nkrumah interchange

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Thursday May 5, 2017 demolished unauthorised structures and settlements around the Kwame Nkrumah interchange at Circle in Accra.

The numerous hawkers on the pavement were also asked to vacate the place immediately.

The exercise was reportedly at the behest of the Accra Mayor Mohammed Adjei Sowah.

The interchange which was outdoored less than a year ago has been invaded by hawkers and illegal settlers, who have threatened to vote against the President Nana Addo if he does not stop the demolition.

The aggrieved hawkers rained insults on the AMA officials amidst curses.

According to Starr News’ Naa Dedei Tettey who was at the scene, the traders burnt tyres and agitated as the AMA officials embarked on the exercise.
