Hawkers are back on the streets of Accra

Accra, Aug. 10, GNA – Officials from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), on Wednesday chased a number of street hawkers, who had reoccupied pavements and other unauthorised places in the central business district of Accra.

The traders, who had been displaced by an exercise by AMA, were seen running away from the officials to avoid confiscation of their wares.

Some of the traders told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that they had nowhere to go and were, therefore, determined to do their own things. However Mr Nathaniel Sowah, an AMA official, who was carrying some seized items from the hawkers, told the GNA that the exercise would continue to bring sanity to the city.
