Have the courage to denounce social injustice -Bishop

Kumasi, Oct 26, GNA – The Right Reverend Professor Osei Sarfo-Kantanka, Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, has urged his colleague priests to have the courage to denounce social evils and injustice in all forms. They should provide leadership in the fight against corruption, greed, selfishness and indiscipline, to restore confidence and hope to the society. To do this, he said, the priests must accept to lead “Christ-like” lives, be morally upright, honest and demonstrate that they could be trusted.

The Rt Rev Sarfo-Kantanka was delivering the sermon at a thanksgiving service held in his honour at the Wesley Cathedral at Adum, Kumasi. The service was organized by the Diocesan Methodist Church to officially welcome him as its new Bishop. The Rt. Rev Sarfo-Kantanka also spoke of the need for the church to embark on aggressive evangelization to increase its membership and save more souls for Christ.

He said the Church has a duty to preach the Gospel and help to transform the lives of the people. “Let us remember that the Word of God has the power to transform the lives of the people and this should be our charge,” he told the congregation.

The Diocesan Bishop used the occasion to encourage wealthy members to show generosity to the poor and socially disadvantaged. The Rt Rev Sarfo-Kantanka pledged to ensure that the Church undertakes programmes that would improve the economic situation of poor and needy members. Special attention would also be given to the youth, to assist them to grow into responsible adults, he said. Mr Kwame Boafo, Lay Chairman of the Church, said the Church would support the Bishop to achieve his vision and set goals. 27 Oct. 09
