Hassan Ayariga quits PNC after defeat

Defeated People’s National Convention presidential hopeful Hassan Ayariga has quit the party.

The 2012 flagbearer for the party has accused officials of the Electoral Commission and his contender of rigging last Saturday’s primaries.

Four times flagbearer Dr. Edward Mahama polled 492 votes as against Ayariga’s 426 votes to lead the party once again into the 2016 elections.

But Mr. Ayariga contends that the elections were not fairly conducted.

In an interview with Starr News, Ayariga said he will contest the 2016 elections as flagbearer but not on the ticket of the PNC.

According to him, the party doesn’t deserve him.

“I don’t think that PNC deserves me because I believe that I am there to build the party, I have committed resources to building the party not the opposite so if the PNC wants Edward Mahama [then] Hassan Ayariga is out of the party”.

Meanwhile, the Upper West Regional Police Command has released three arrested PNC members on bail.

The three were arrested after a scuffle broke out between supporters of Ayariga and Dr. Mahama during the Congress.

Regional crime officer, Superintendent Hussein Adamu, told Starr News investigations are still ongoing.
