Haruna Attah Fabricated Bribery Story -GJA

The Ethics Committee of the Ghana Journalists Associations has after several months investigation concluded that a publication in the Accra Daily Mail newspaper which alleged that a senior journalist had received a bribe of $125,00 was speculative and unprofessional.

The committee said since the story broke last year the writer, Haruna Attah has failed to substantiate the publication with concrete evidence. In October last year, the Accra Daily Mail newspaper reported that a senior journalist had received an amount of $125,000 bribe.

The report was later linked to the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwasi Pratt Jnr. This led to a heated debate with Mr. Pratt asking the publisher of the Accra Daily Mail to substantiate the report or withdraw it.

In a statement the GJA ethics committee said it deplores the behaviour of Haruna Atta, a senior journalist, for his inability to establish the basis of the story he repeatedly published. It has, therefore, requested Mr. Atta to apologize to the Ghanaian public and to his fellow journalists for casting a slur on them.
