MELBOURNE, Fla.– Harris Corporation today announced that its vice president of Technology, Dr. Kwame A. Boakye, has been selected to join the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Technological Advisory Committee (TAC), a Federal Advisory Committee comprised of a broad array of well-known technologists.
The TAC, which was formed in 1999, provides technical advice to the FCC on technological and technical issues in the field of communications and makes recommendations on the issues and questions presented to it by the FCC. In a world of rapidly evolving and converging communication technology, the TAC assists the FCC in remaining abreast of new developments so that it can effectively fulfill its responsibilities under the Communications Act.
“This appointment, while an individual honor, is also a recognition of Harris’ technological prowess in the communications industry,” said Dr. Boakye. “With leadership in both the telecommunications and broadcast industries, Harris brings a unique perspective to the FCC and the communications industry. The appointment should give us an opportunity to help shape the evolution and convergence taking place in the industry. Prior to joining Harris in July 1998, Dr. Boakye was vice president-Technology Planning for AT&T Paradyne. In his six years at Paradyne, he also held positions as chief technical officer and chief architect, director-Business Development, and technical director-Architecture Planning. He also served as a technology consultant for United Nations agencies and for Lucent Technologies. Dr. Boakye began his career at Bell Laboratories in 1973 as a member of the technical staff in the Network Planning Department. In 1977, he joined the University of Ghana where he became head of the Computer Science Department. He returned to Bell Labs in 1982 as a member of the technical staff in the Network Capabilities Department.
Dr. Boakye has BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineer from Columbia University.
