Hard liquor sales at Asogli Yam Festival soar and beer runs short

Ho, Sept. 28, GNA – Hard liquor sales soured during the three-week period of the Asogli Yam Festival which was climaxed with a grand durbar on Saturday, drinking bar operators told the Ghana News Agency. The Club Beer supply depot at Ho ran short of the product and had to order some from Hohoe.

Mr Benson Bosompem, the Regional Sales Manager of Accra Brewery, told the GNA that though the Depot was yet to take returns from retailers, some drinking bars reported shortage of club products. “We ordered enough for the festival but the high patronage defied our projections, an indication of the love the people have for club products,” he said.

Mr Moses Larsey, Regional Sales Manager for Guinness Ghana Limited, said they were yet to take returns from retailers and could not tell how products of the Company moved during the festival but said patronage was good.

A bar attendant at “Kosovo” a popular drinking and chop bar in Ho who wants to be known only as Angie told the GNA that most revellers especially young ones said they preferred the hard liquors to the beers because of the cost.

She said by noon on Sunday the bar had run out of all beers and hard liquors. The GNA also found that soft drinks generally had relatively lower patronage during the festival with the depots still stocking several crates after the festival.
