Hand washing with soap programme launched at Kuntanase

Kuntanase (Ash), Nov 3, GNA – The government has released 4.6 billion cedis to the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District for the provision of water and sanitation facilities.

Mr Daniel Ava, the District Co-ordinating Director, who announced this, said the project if completed, would assist is reducing diarrhoea, dysentery, bilharzias and other waterborne diseases in the area. He was speaking at the district’s launch of the Hand Washing With Soap Programme at Kuntanase on Friday.

Mr Joseph Piasa, a nurse at the Kuntanase Government Hospital, expressed worry that the district recorded 1,831 diarrhoeal cases for the first half of this year and said the disease ranked second to malaria in the district.

He called on the people to eat balanced diet and undertake hygienic practices to prevent contracting those diseases.

Miss Theophilia Anokye, Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of the Private-Public Partnership for Hand Washing With Soap Programme, said the programme was aimed at controlling preventable diseases. Mrs Evelyn Apeti, acting District Director of Education, called on mothers and food sellers to support the programme.
