Hajia Baby Ocansey, the woman in the centre of the Bank Of Ghana (BOG) seven billion-fraud case has been arrested by the Police. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Inspector of Police (IGP), Mr Adu Poku confirmed the arrest.
On November 26, 1999, Hajia Ocansey was alleged to have withdrawn the amount with a fake bank draft, authorised by Mr Sebastian Gavor, Director Budget and Accounts Department and Mr Justice Ofosu Larbi, Deputy Director Banking Department, both of the BOG.
Since the offence was committed, Hajia was never seen again until her arrest. Mr Gavor and Mr Larbi are standing trial at an Accra Regional Tribunal, for allegedly conniving with Hajia Ocansey.
Standing trial with the two former bankers is Alhaji Sidiq Gimala, businessman and Head of the Wangara Community in Accra.
The three, who have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and stealing, will appear again before the tribunal on April 23.
