Some 112 young women in the Jomoro District have graduated in dressmaking and hairdressing under the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneur Development Agency (GYEEDA) programme after a year’s training.
The graduates, made up of 72 dressmakers and 40 hairdressers, were each given start-up kits at a ceremony at the Jomoro District Assembly Hall at Half Assini on Tuesday.
Mr Sylvester Daddieh, the Jomoro District Chief Executive, said the government, by such interventions, is bringing socio-economic changes into the lives of numerous Ghanaian youth by giving them employable skills.
He expressed gratitude to the government for the fulfillment of its promise to the youth and urged the beneficiaries to use the kits profitably for the socio-economic development of the country at large.
Mr Godfred Amatakpey, Deputy Western Regional GYEEDA Coordinator, said the government had restructured the GYEEDA programme to cover non-graduate youth alongside other models which hitherto favoured graduate only.
He said the region had trained 3,200 youth in various employable skills.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to the Ghana News Agency at the ceremony expressed their gratitude to the government for introducing the programme which would reduce unemployment in the country.
