Gyangyanadze faces acute water problem

Gyangyanadze (C/R), April 19, GNA-The people of Gyangyanadze, a farming community in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District are currently confronted with severe water problem. The issue is seriously hampering agricultural activities in the area as farmers and their children have to walk several kilometrer to Essuekyir, Osubonmpanyin, Atteitu and Winneba for potable water everyday.

Nana Sackey, an executive member of Gyangyanadze community development committee told the Ghana News Agency that the only borehole in the village has dried up and this has aggravated their problem. Nana Sackey said the best solution to their water problem was for the government to extend the new Winneba water supply system to the community.

He said the distance between the village and the Winneba waterworks is about six kilometres, adding that the people were prepared to augment Government efforts with intensive communal duties to speed up the implementation of the project.

Nana Sackey said although plans to connect Gyangyanadze to the new Winneba Waterworks had been on the drawing board for about three years now, no efforts had been made to implement it. He entertained fear that if steps were not taken to address the problem it might severely affect their farming and other social programmes in the area and eventually impede their progress in many ways.

Nana Sackey expressed the hope that the MP for Effutu and Deputy Minister of Health Mr. Samuel Kofi Owusu-Agyei would take a serious view of the issue and do something about it.
