GWCL To Arrest And Prosecute Water Sellers

The Ghana Water Company Limited in collaboration with the police is to arrest and prosecute people who feed portable water from its lines into tanks and sell them to the people of Teshie at a high fee.

It says, it is outrageous for anybody to sell water at ?1,000 per gallon in the Teshie area as a result of the acute water shortage there. The managing Director of the GWCL, Mr Jonathan Nii Ahele Nunoo, told Peace fm in an interview that, the Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku constituency, Hon. Eddie Akita has taken steps to provide polytanks at vantage points, for GWCL to pump water into them in the Teshie area.

Mr Nunoo said, the step being taken now is a short term one, while the GWCL takes time to do a proper lay-out of provided into the area. According to Mr Nunoo, the problem could be solved totally in the Teshie area, and most parts of the country, if more funds are injected into the GWCL. This is because; most of the systems in the eastern part of Accra are outmoded and need total replacement.
