GWCL sails through Minister’s ultimatum ahead of time

Dodowa (G/A), March 3, GNA – The Ghana Water Company (GWCL) has sailed through the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Hackman Owusu Agyemang’s ultimatum to complete work on the Dodowa Mechanized Borehole Water Project, which is to serve the Adenta Township in Accra three days ahead of time.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang gave a two-week ultimatum to the GWCL to complete the Project, which was halted due to lack of power supply.

Mr Samuel Gerald Odartey Lamptey, Managing Director of the GWCL, told a team of Journalists that visited the site on Wednesday that work was completed last Monday following the purchase and installation of a generator, which now allowed hundreds of gallons of water to be pumped to Adenta every day.

He said with the aid of a booster machine the volume of water being pumped had now increased.

However, Mr Lamptey said the quantity of water could not serve the whole of Adenta Township daily so the GWCL was going to ration the water with effect from Monday, March 7 to enable every area to benefit.

He said the use of the generator was a short-term solution and, therefore, not a sustainable measure due to the amount of diesel it required for its efficient operation.

As result, he said, there was the need to look at a long-term measure that would be to bring electricity to the area.

Mr Lamptey said currently the GWCL had employed the services of geophysicists to undertake feasibility studies at some other areas to sink more boreholes as a long term and sustainable measure.
