Dodowa (G/A), Feb. 17 GNA – Mr Ebenezer Gambrah, Chief Production Manager of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), on Friday said the Company was working around the clock to restore water supply to Adenta and its environs.
He said the GWCL had also ordered for new stainless steel pipes to replace the galvanised pipes, which got destroyed about two months ago because the metal became rusty.
Mr Gambrah said this when some members of the Kpeshi Gonno Zonal Council (KGZC) paid a working visit to the Adenta Water Project site at Dodowa in the Dangme West District.
The visit came as a result of various complaints made by residents of Adenta to the Zonal Council to do something about the acute problems facing the people in the area. It was also to learn at first hand the state of affairs and to find out why water has not been flowing to Adenta and its environs. Mr Gambrah said the Water Company was drilling four additional boreholes at different places in Dodowa to provide about 400,000 gallons of water to supplement the current production.
Mr Gambrah warned owners of power tillers, who tampered with the GWCL pipe line from Dodowa to Adenta to put a stop to their activities or when caught would be made to face the full rigours of the law. Mr Majeed Abudu, a Hydro-Geologist of the GWCL, told the residents in the Adenta area that water extracted from underground was pure and good for consumption and did not require further treatment. He said the boreholes in the Dodowa area contained a lot of water that could be channelled into the reservoir and pumped to the Adenta areas all year round.
Mr Josiah Kingful, Chairman of the Council, expressed the Council’s delight about the information they had on how the problem was being tackled. He said the Council would organise a meeting with the various resident associations in the area to explain the situation to them.
