GVCC appeals to chiefs to market our culture

Kumasi, Dec. 25, GNA – An urgent appeal has been made to traditional rulers to portray and practically market Ghanaian culture to feature more prominently during their trips abroad next year. The appeal, which was made by the Voltarian Co-ordinating Council (VCC) said, instead of perceiving such trips as avenues for mere interactions with those in the Diaspora, it should be used more for organization of mini durbars and cultural displays to showcase the rich culture of the Ghanaian people. The appeal was contained in a Christmas message issued in Kumasi on Sunday and signed by Togbe S. K. Fugah, President of the VCC.

The VCC said those in the Diaspora were yearning for a taste of the Ghanaian culture and that, these could be mainly achieved when chiefs have the opportunity to visit foreign countries, using festivals and also adoring themselves in cultural outfits instead of western costumes. The Council said the tendency of perceiving visits abroad as an opportunity for doing business should give way since, “business transactions will certainly follow, if the country’s culture is adequately marketed abroad”.

The VCC however, commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, for championing the course of marketing and showcasing the Ghanaian culture abroad through his numerous trips. The Council also lauded the role of Togbegah Afede XIV, Agbogmefia of Asugle State in the Volta Region, for the bold steps initiated for marketing Ghanaian culture in and outside the country.
