Guinea fowl project for northern regions- Minister

Wa, Aug. 03, GNA- The Ministry of Food and Agriculture will launch a guinea fowl development project for the three northern regions at the end of the month.

The guinea fowl project, which is specifically designed for women and the youth, is aimed at considerably raising the production level of the bird, which is notably in high demand in urban areas. Mr Ernest Debrah, Minister of Food and Agriculture announced this at Wa when he addressed a meeting of farmers and staff of the Ministry in the Upper West Region.

The Minister is on a two-day working visit to learn at first hand problems facing the farmers and staff of the ministry in the region and also to share ideas with them on how best to push the country’s agriculture forward to the desired goal.

He said under the project, interested women and youth groups in the northern, upper east and upper west regions would be assisted to construct housing infrastructure and the acquisition of hutchies and incubators for guinea fowl rearing.

He was hopeful that women and the youth in the three regions would avail themselves of the opportunity by forming strong groups to enable them access the assistance available to them under the project to empower to empower them economically.
