Guide children to make informed choice – Parents told

Gomoa Afranse (C/R), April. 5, GNA – Mrs Juliana Brown, Central Regional Project Co-ordinator of Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) has exhorted parents to guide their children to make informed choices on sexual reproductive health.

Mrs Brown said that would make them delay their involvement in sex. She said it was time when matters about sex were not treated as a taboo in the home. The children need to know what entailed in sex, Mrs Brown stressed.

The PPAG Project Coordinator gave the exhortation during a monitoring and evaluation visit to PPAG projects in the Gomoa District. The projects, meant to promote adolescent sexual reproductive health are being implemented by PPAG and the Africa Youth Alliance at Gomoa Dawurampong, Obuasi, Afranse, Ankamu and Mumford. They involved the formation of advocacy network groups training of peer educators and parent-child communication members. Mr Emmanuel Akoto Okantoh, PPAG Project Officer said AYA concluded its operations in Ghana last Mach adding that a new project was to replace AYA.

Mr Okantoh explained that the visit was to monitor and evaluate the impact of the projects in the implementing communities and to prepare the ground for the next projects, which would soon take off. Miss Vivien Bentum, the District community development officer who is the coordinator of PPAG programmes in the district commended the traditional authorities for enacting by-laws to protect children from going wayward.
