Accra, Oct. 17, GNA – The Ghana Telecom University College would soon introduce virtual and satellite campuses in some selected cities across the country to offer online courses to students. Dr. Osei Darkwa, President of GTUC, noted that the virtual campuses would also increase enrolment as well as reduce the cost of school fees. He said this at the third matriculation ceremony of 511 freshmen and women admitted to pursue certificate, diploma, degree and post-graduate programmes for the 2000/2009 academic year. Dr. Darkwa said the GTUC also had plans to set up a Centre for Education and Technology in Africa (CETA). “CETA will be a centralized and shared service facility that will provide IT related services to all tertiary institutions in Ghana and beyond.”
He said the college was again seeking accreditation from the National Accreditation Board to offer programmes in computer forensics and information technology management adding that a third faculty, Business Entrepreneurship, would be opened soon. “To facilitate these visions, the office of information technology services has been created to manage the University’s central information technology infrastructure and provide IT-support services for the university.”
Dr. Darkwa told the students: “You are at a critical stage in your career. You are about to begin a chapter in your life, learn to grow intellectually and socially and contribute your quota to this learning community.” Mr. Kwabena Berko Appiah, a representative of the students, expressed gratitude to the school for the opportunity and pledged their commitment to academic and social development of the school.
