Accra, June 26, GNA- Dr. Osei Kofi Darkwa, President of the Ghana Telecom University College (GTUC), has announced that University would introduce four new post graduate programmes next academic year. They include Master of Science in Engineering Business Management, Master of Science in Supply Chain Management, Master of Science in Engineering and Management and Master of Business Administration in Engineering Management.
Dr. Darkwa announced these at the 3rd graduation of the University on Saturday in Accra, when about 154 granduands were awarded with certificates in Telecom Engineering and Information Technology. He said that the initiative to introduce the new programmes was a collaborative project between the University and Coventry University in the United Kingdom and students who would purse the programmes would be awarded Coventry degree.
Dr. Darkwa said that the GTUC was collaborating with University of Wildau in Germany to commence Masters in Telematics and Aviation Management. He said, “Management of GTUC has been working hard to develop a ‘smart educational partnerships aimed at bring the university closer to the relevant industries.
“We have an on-going collaboration with Vodafone Ghana and MTN, two telecom giants, Rising Data Solutions, a BPO company and ZTE, a Chinese IT company. These collaborations are an important component of our fundraising and “friend-raising” campaign” Dr. Darkwa added. He also said the GTUC was working with some institutions in areas of academic and research, capacity building, information technology development, faculty and student exchange programme in exchange of experience, information and best practices. Dr. Darkwa said GTUC would soon introduce virtual and satellite campuses in selected cities across the country to offer online courses. He noted that the virtual campuses would also increase enrolment as well as reduce school fees.
Dr. Darkwa told the students: “You are at a critical stage in your career. You are about to begin a chapter in your life, learn to grow intellectually and socially and contribute your quota to this learning community.”
He called on the graduands to work hard on the job market to enable them to succeed, adding that “It takes hard work, determination, honesty, humility, faith and focus to succeed”. Dr Darkwah said the college would continue to build academic partnership with other higher institutions of learning to build capacity of its products.
Professor Derise Tolliver, a lecturer at the Center for New Learning, DePaul University, United States of America, charged the graduands to be innovative and contribute positively to national development. She said “Dear graduands, your graduation today is the beginning of great things to come. Have big dreams for yourself, your nation and your continent.”
