GT sets GH¢1,000 for informant of its cable theft

Winneba (C/R), April 30, GNA – Ghana Telecomm Company has instituted an award of GH¢1,000 for anyone whose information would lead to the arrest of perpetrators stealing the company’s telecommunication cables. Mr Emmanuel Baiden Agona Swedru/Winneba, the Winneba Area Manager of the Company said this when he addressed a large crowd at a regatta and a tug-of-war competition as part of activities marking the celebration of the Aboakyer festival at Winneba on Tuesday.

According to him the continuing stealing of the company’s cables was doing more harm to both the company and the public. The competition saw a group named “Macho” coming first in the regatta that covered a distance of 250 kilometres offshore and back. The seconds, third, fourth and fifth positions went to Egyapaye, Sika Nmepewrofo, A-Adamah, Abasam and Faster groups respectively. Eyendah and Nation groups drew at last in the seventh position. Competing in the women tug-of-war game, Fishmongers group defeated Akwabaa group (Chop bar owners) when they succeeded in pulling them down within 45 seconds.

In the men’s division the Fishermen group took the first position whilst Hustlers group became second. The participants were all given cash award and Ghana Telecom souvenirs. 30 April 08
