GT Installs New Switch

Ghana Telecom (GT) yesterday installed an Alcatel Trunk Switch at the company?s head office in Accra.

The switch will enable GT to extend its network to cover more telephone subscribers across the country.

?With Alcatel Trunk Switch we can now extend our fixed network from 240,000 to 400,000 lines and our current mobile phone lines from 75,000 to 750,000 within the next three years,? said Mr. Oystein Bjorge, CEO of GT.

According to him, Alcatel Trunk switch was made possible through a 150-million-dollar loan guaranteed by the Chinese government.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Chinese Deputy Minister of Commerce, Mr. Wei Jianguo, who is currently on a visit to the country.
