Gt. Accra GJA condemns Ennin’s murder

Accra, Feb 11, GNA – The Greater Accra Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), on Sunday condemned the murder of Mr Samuel Kwabena Ennin, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GJA, and described it as a “cowardly act by intolerant elements of society.” A statement signed by Mr Gideon Sackitey, the Chairman of the branch, said it was shocking that a journalist could be shot and killed in public and added “those who killed him should bow their heads in shame.” The statement said whatever reason for which Mr Ennin was killed would not be quenched because the vision to flush out the truth, for which he stood, would not die.
“We, as journalists, will fight on, bringing society up to do what is right for our country,” it said. Unknown gunmen shot and killed Mr Ennin on Friday Night at a popular spot at Pankrono Estate in Kumasi.
Mr Ennin, the Editor of the Ashh FM, a local radio station in Kumasi, was relaxing with some staff and friends of the radio station when he was shot.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants, who were in an unregistered white saloon car, entered the spot and without any provocation shot the deceased in the stomach after firing indiscriminately to frighten customers.
The assailants entered their vehicle and drove away. Mr Ennin was taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he died. The statement urged the police to speed up investigations and expressed the hope that sooner than later the culprits would be caught. The Greater Accra GJA expressed its deepest condolences to Mr Ennin’s family especially his wife and two children.
