GSA holds science and math’s quiz competition in Cape Coast

The Cape Coast President of the Ghana Science Association (GSA), on Friday asked pupils to adopt the zeal for the study of science, mathematics and technology at the early stages of their education.

Dr. Mrs. Genevieve Adukpo, said, they should disabuse their minds that the study of mathematics and the sciences are difficult.

Dr Adukpo made the request during a Mathematics and Science quiz competition organised by the University Of Cape Coast Chapter Of GSA, in collaboration with the Cape Coast branch of GSA for four basic schools in the Metropolis.

The Kwaprow M/A School emerged winner with 61 points whilst St Anthony Anglican School came second with 57 points, Imam Khomeini School; third with 46 points, whilst Amamoma Presbyterian School recorded 38 points to get the fourth place.

The first and runner-up schools were presented with a set of text books and shields whilst the other competing schools were given a set of text books.

The quiz aimed at helping pupils in basic schools to develop the interest in the study of science, mathematics and technology was on the theme: “Promoting Science and Mathematics in Basic Schools.”

Dr Adukpo said, GSA looks at the way science and mathematics are taught in basic schools and gives the needed support which include organising activities like quiz and science experiments to build a solid foundation at the basic level.

Dr Fiifi Mensah, Head of Basic Education Department, UCC, who chaired the function, encouraged the pupils that science was not only meant for the Whiteman, and that it was part of everyday life.**
