Groupe Nduom provides water for 2 communities in the Central Region

The Groupe Nduom (GN) Foundation and Safe Water Network have launched water stations at Abeyee and Berase in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (KEEA) district of the Central Region.

Commissioning the facilities, President of Groupe Nduom, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, said: “Safe water access is directly related to health and that is why the GN Foundation found it necessary to invest in these projects in order to improve the health of people.”

Dr Nduom commended management and staff of Groupe Nduom for their hard work which has enabled the foundation to invest in providing basic social amenities in deprived communities. He also commended Safe Water Network for completing the projects on schedule.

“Safe Water Network’s model is sustainable and the organisation has a good track record of delivering sustainable community-managed water solutions and so we were convinced we could partner them to achieve greater success,” he said.

The Country Director of Safe Water Network, Charles Nimako, urged residents in the beneficiary communities to operate and manage the water station as a business to generate the required cash flows for long-term sustainability.

The water stations, also known as H20ME water enterprises, apply a Limited Mechanisation System (LMS) technology with chlorine dosing equipment and will produce an average of 60,000 litres of water daily. A network of five standpipes have been provided in each of the beneficiary communities to ensure convenient water access with plans to introduce a household connection programme and mobile-enabled water ATMs.

To minimise the station’s operating cost and ensure uninterrupted water supply, the H20ME water stations use solar power as primary energy source with the national electricity grid as back-up.

An additional water station constructed in Etwereso in the Eastern Region is to be commissioned later in May this year. All three water stations were constructed at a cost of about $300,000.
