Group of African Ambassadors call on Foreign Minister

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs on Friday said there was the need for African leaders to co-operate to resolve conflicts on the continent and work towards improving the lives of their people.

He said the African continent was faced with conflicts, worsening the already precarious development situation on the continent.

Nana Akufo-Addo told a group of 14 African Ambassadors, who called on him in Accra to congratulate him for becoming the new Foreign Minister that democratic principles, good governance and rule of law should be used by African leaders to inspire their people and assure them of peace and stability.

The Foreign Minister noted that there was the need for all states to support the ECOWAS force in Cote d’Ivoire to sustain the peace process in that country.

Mr Elwood Greeves, Dean of the Ambassadors congratulated the Minister and gave him the assurance of their support in ensuring that peace prevailed on the continent.

The Ambassadors of France, Cuba, Brazil and United States of America also took turns to congratulate the Minister.

Mr. Jean-Michel Berrit, French Ambassador, commended Ghana for the peace process in Cote d’Ivoire and said that France would double her contribution to Ghana’s economy and expand French business investment in Ghana.

Mr Hernandez Domingo Pelledo, Cuban Ambassador said his country would continue to assist Ghana in the health sector.

Mr Paulo Americo Veiga Wolowski, Ambassador of Brazil, called for the deepening of the relationship between the two countries and assured Ghana of her support to ensure peace and stability on the continent.

Mrs Carylin Yates, US Ambassador commended Ghana for the role played in the peace process of Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia.
