Group condemns attack on Agbogbomefia

Accra, May 5, GNA – A group calling itself Forum for Positive Agenda on Tuesday condemned attacks on Agbogbomefia Togbe Afede XIV following a statement he made critical of the Kufuor Administration’s handling of the Volta Region during a durbar of chiefs during the visit of President John Evans Atta Mills. In a statement signed by Mr Nicholas Gborse, General Secretary, the group said it supported Agbogbomefia’s statement, as it “represented the feelings and aspirations of majority of the people from the Volta Region”.

“We consider it very regrettable that certain leading members of the opposition New Patriotic Party, such as the Volta Region Chairman, Mr Ken-Wud Nuworsu, Kennedy Agyepong and some NPP commentators could descend heavily on the hard-won character and personality of Togbe Afede.”

The group said, just as any Ghanaian whose rights of free speech were guaranteed by the 1992 Constitution, no one can gag the outspoken Togbe Afede.
